I have the privilege to teach a summer course involving my favorite subject “Theater for the Mind”. Some call it “audio drama”, but this is so much more.
We will explore the craft and creation of aural storytelling. This involves learning technique on how to communicate effectively through a balance of dialogue, Foley, SoundFX, and music. Without the camera, the director gets to focus solely on performance, the editor can work without time constraints and experiment with the rhythm of dialogue, and the writer is forced to work through dialogue and creative storytelling to overcome obstacles of exposition.
There are many other roles involved with production, and each one customized to this unique revitalization of the medium. By working without visuals, the aural creative process strengthens the areas that are often minimized.
The class is limited to 20, and runs from 6:30pm till 8:15 PM ;
Summer Courses are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC as well. HOWEVER, this is a 300 Level course, which means you have to have some sort of audio experience prior to enrollment. There are ways to have pre-reqs waived, so if you have questions please e-mail me at cwayland@chapman.edu
